How to find a financial advisor – the conversation

Did you know that googling a financial advisor will give you 215 million results?! Overwhelming? Definitely.

So how do you narrow down the search? How do you choose someone who will actually help you and not just take your money?

In a perfect world you would be able to get a referral from a friend. Your friend would say ‘Hey I had this financial advisor that changed my life! She helped me to accomplish all of my goals and then some!’

However, most people don’t have the luxury of a referral falling in their lap from a trusted friend.

The most important thing is the initial conversation with your potential advisor.

You should trust your gut during this conversation.

A good financial advisor will help you understand the terminology. They will answer your questions directly, and they will care that you understand them.

Financial advisors are people who have been thoroughly educated on the ins and outs of finances and investments. So make them educate you! You deserve to understand the plan and what they intend to do with your money.

So ask hard, clarifying questions. If you don’t understand something they say, don’t move past it. Force them to show you that they care about you, and that they care about your money.

The end goal is to have a financial advisor that you fully TRUST. That all starts with a conversation.
