What’s something in your life that you’re doing that’s amazing, but when you stop to think about how you’re monetizing it, you let it become a bummer and you have to come out from the tiny view back to the bigger picture?
During the pandemic, I took this amazing course called “Heroic Public Speaking”. I highly recommend it to anyone who’s interested in up-leveling their communication skills. To work on my business I developed my keynote speech and how it’s going to go along with my book. I really just learned so many things about telling stories and connecting with people.
I’m finding myself in Germany doing my Air Force reserve time and it’s funny because I’m getting to use all of these amazing skills that I developed for my business and putting them to work in my reserve role of teaching different young Captains and Colonels about how to communicate, connect with people, and how to make things happen.
I found myself getting a little frustrated that the Air Force was benefitting from something that I spent my personal money on for my business, and I’m not getting compensated for that. That thought felt very small and slightly icky. As I reflected on that, I realized, who cares about the money? This is actually really cool that I’ve developed this skill and I’m getting to share it with all of these people and have these amazing experiences!
It’s such an incredible moment when you see the lightbulb go off in everyone in the room, as things start connecting and you get to see those “aha moments”. Instead of focusing on the problems, we start to see the solutions and the way forward.
Have you ever been in a situation like that? Where you’ve taken something and made it small and about how much you were getting out financially vs. the really cool thing that was happening at the moment? Let me know in the comments, I’d love to hear it.
